The tour starts from your hotel and continues with the visit to the famous Colosseum, whose correct name in reality is Flavian Amphitheater, due to the imperial family who built this oval shaped structure in only eight years, from 72 to 80 AD. This huge monument, whose nickname comes from Colossus, a 35 meters statue representing the emperor Nero, was able to seat up to 70,000 spectators. It has been immortalized over the centuries as the scene of wild and ferocious games between man and beasts – gladiators vs animals & gladiators vs gladiators as well represented in the movie Gladiator. Close to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, considered the real political – commercial – social –religious center of Rome at the time of the Monarchy and the Republican period. The tour starts from “Piazza Trilussa” in Trastevere and continues with the visit of St. Mary Basilica, one of the few remaining Byzantine churches in the city. Passing through the narrow alleys of the area, you will arrive to the Tiberine island, “Isola Tiberina”, with its two important and well known hospitals and basilicas. Crossing the river you will see a huge complex called “Portico d’Ottavia”, located in the old Jewish ghetto. During the Imperial age, the old market was housed in the Jewish district. Walking through the small streets of the ghetto, you will discover the beauty of the Turtle Fountain, built by Gianlorenzo Bernini, maximum exponent of the baroque period, and the “S. Carlo ai Catinari” church in the real heart of the district. The tour ends at Giordano Bruno’s square, the renown “Campo dei Fiori”, where today one of the most important and crowded modern open-air market is located.

Walking tour of Christian Rome to discover the underground treasures in some of the most sensational churches. The tour starts in the Lateran area, whose name comes from the family owner of the territory where the first Popes use to live before going to Avignone in France and come back to Rome later on in the Vatican area. Visit of St. John Lateran Basilica, the oldest of the four Papal Basilicas, considered “The Church of Rome”, the mother of all churches The Cathedral, the place where the Bishop has the seat. Then the tour continues with the visit of St. Clement’s Basilica, the only church in Rome to be built on 3 different levels, from the 1st to the 12th century and the underground floors can be explored, including the altar of Mithras from the 1st century. Continue to the Church of the Four Crowned Saints, dedicated to four anonymous saints and martyrs and where in the 2002, an extraordinary series of frescoes was discovered with scenes of the Zodiac, Four Seasons, Liberal Arts and King Solomon. The visit ends with St. Peter’s in Chains Basilica, called like that for the chains that, according to the tradition, Helene – Constantine’s mother- brought in Rome and for a miracle where joined to the other St. Peter’s chain in Rome. The church, furthermore, is very well renowned for the statue of Moses that Michelangelo created for the tomb of the Pope Julius II.
