It was the beginning of a phenomenon, the rural idyll, which carried on for two centuries until the fall of the Republic. About 2,000 houses were built in various parts of the region, all the villas showed the opulence of their respective owners. Famous Architects (Andrea Palladio, Francesco Maria Preti), and famous artists (Veronese, Giambattista Zelotti, Giambattista Tiepolo, Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini) created fantastic environments for this new Venetian fashion, which was named as the “Society of the villas”. We will visit some of the finest houses on the banks of the Brenta River, the so called “Grand Canal” of the mainland: Villa Foscari “La Malcontenta”, Villa Widmann, Villa Valmarana and Alessandri “barchesse,” and the beautiful Villa Pisani. Then we will drive to Padua, visit the church of S. Antonio, the Basilica, the Chapel of the third century, the masterpiece “ Palace of Reason” (year 1218), the Bo’ Palace (University), and then to the cathedral of Gaileo Galilei.
